Man arrested for impersonating officer

— A 37-year-old Steamboat Springs man was arrested on suspicion of impersonating an Arizona police officer after he reportedly showed a resident a police badge Wednesday.

Police Capt. Joel Rae said Michael Richard Gilbert was arrested on Old Fish Creek Falls Road after a resident in the area reported Gilbert knocked on his door and interrogated him about something.

Officers stopped Gilbert as he was leaving the man’s home and arrested him on suspicion of felony impersonating a police officer, prohibited use of a weapon and driving while ability impaired, Rae said.

A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office badge, several guns and Gilbert’s grandfather’s identification card were confiscated, he said.

Gilbert was taken to the Routt County Jail where he was released on a $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Routt County Court at 8:30 a.m. July 31.
