Steamboat briefs for Dec. 4
December 4, 2007
Ski touring center’s terrain two-thirds open
The weekend snowstorm made all the difference at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center, which has opened 67 percent of its terrain for cross-country skiing. Available terrain includes Fish Creek, Boot Hill, Kajsa’s and Wren’s Way – virtually all of the center’s terrain is open with the exception of Elk Valley and Lower Meadows. There are now 10 kilometers of trails available for skiing.
Owner Birgitta Lindgren said the opening Nordic Challenge Series race that had been tentatively scheduled for Bruce’s Trail on Rabbit Ears Pass on Sunday could now be held at the Touring Center, barring rapid snow melt.
Kiwanis Club’s 26th holiday ornament on sale
The Steamboat Kiwanis Club has released the 26th edition of its annual holiday ornament. The 2007 collectible edition features a fly fishermen casting in the Yampa River just downstream from the footbridge near the Stock Bridge Transit Center.
The $7 price of the ornaments helps the Kiwanis Club fund its programs for youths and seniors in the community.

Teen of the Month nominations sought
The Steamboat Springs Optimist Club is accepting applications for its Teen of the Month program. Area high school students can pick up applications from school counselors or call Rob MacCarthy at 871-7179. The Teen of the Month program culminates in a recognition dinner in May for all of the teens and their parents, and a scholarship is awarded to the student chosen as Teen of the Year.
