Steamboat briefs: Deadline is today for absent voters in Hayden

— Today is the deadline for Hayden voters who want to register for an absent voter ballot. The town is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether it wants to elect a home-rule Charter Commission, which would put the town on the path from statutory to home rule.

People who won’t be able to vote from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday can get an absent voter ballot from Hayden Town Hall at 178 W. Jefferson Ave. They also can call Town Clerk Susan Irvine at 970-276-3741 and have one faxed.

Gordon Dowling, James Folley, Town Trustee Richard “Festus” Hagins, Bill Irvine, Mayor Lorraine Johnson, James Lewis, Hayden School District Superintendent Greg Rockhold, Bryan Strickland and Hayden High School Principal Troy Zabel are running for the nine-person Charter Commission.
