Snowstorm moving in to Steamboat Springs

— The city of Steamboat Springs is under a winter weather advisory until 6 a.m. Monday and could receive as much as 10 inches of snow.

The snow was expected to begin falling Saturday afternoon. The National Weather Service in Grand Junction predicted the heaviest snowfall to occur Saturday night and into today, before tapering off this evening.

Snowfall accumulation in the city is expected to range from 5 to 10 inches, with higher amounts possible in some areas.

An upper-level low pressure system and a strong cold front was expected to drop into Northwest Colorado on Saturday night, resulting in decreasing temperatures through the weekend and early next week.

“Snowfall will be heavy at times in Northwest Colorado and portions of west-central Colorado as the front passes. Accumulating snowfall will continue behind the front as cold unsettled air works into the region,” the weather advisory states.

Sunday’s high temperature is expected to be 25 degrees. Things get considerably colder Sunday night, when a low of 4 degrees below zero is forecast. High temperatures Monday and Tuesday are expected to reach into the single digits or low teens. Low temperatures Monday and Tuesday nights are expected to be 10 degrees below zero.
