Moffat County Libraries ban surveillance equipment

— In a policy soon to be implemented at the Moffat County Libraries, no surveillance devices of any kind will be allowed to be used while in the library.

Director Donna Watkins said a recent incident has brought the issue to the forefront, causing a need for the problem to be addressed.

“Patrons have the right to confidentiality,” Watkins said. “These new cell phones are going to be a real problem.”

Cell phones already are required to be turned off while in the library, but technology that includes cameras in phones has not previously been regulated.

A sign on the library door will soon notify patrons that no cell-phone recorders, video cameras or hand-held recorders are permitted for use in the library.

In other business, the search for an assistant director resulted in three applications for the position. One applicant met the criteria set by the director and will be available for an August 13 interview with the library board of trustees and the Moffat County Commissioners at the meeting scheduled for that date.
