Man arrested after vehicular assault

— Steamboat Springs police arrested a 22-year-old man Friday night after he allegedly rammed another car and tried to run over downtown partygoers while intoxicated.

Steamboat Springs resident Nicholas James Bucci was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular assault, felony menacing, driving under the influence, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, no proof of insurance and driving without a license.

Bucci, who was highly intoxicated, had been asked to leave a party at a residence in the 600 block of Sixth Street at about 10 p.m. and apparently was unhappy with that request, police Sgt. Gerard Geis said Saturday.

Bucci allegedly got into his car and began ramming the vehicle of another partygoer, Geis said. The people at the party came outside when they heard the noise, and Bucci allegedly continued ramming vehicles and then attempted to run over the people in the house’s lawn and driveway, Geis said.

When police arrived on scene, Bucci was disorderly and resisted arrest, Geis said.

On the way to Routt County Jail, Bucci made multiple unsuccessful attempts to kick out the windows of his arresting officer’s patrol vehicle and continually rammed his head into the safety divider. He was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center to be treated for a head laceration before he was booked into the jail Saturday morning.
