Hayden wrestlers finish 4th at Middle Park
Soroco squad showing early season promise, coach says
The Hayden High School wrestling team opened the season in impressive fashion.
Hayden, a Class 2A school, finished fourth out of more than 20 teams at Saturday’s Middle Park Invitational.
Hayden seniors Mitch Doolin and Coy Letlow each won individual championships, with Doolin topping the 160-pound bracket and Letlow blowing through the 189-pound bracket.
Sophomore Treyben Letlow finished second at 215 pounds.
Coy Letlow also was named the most outstanding wrestler at the tournament for his domination of his weight class.
Hayden wrestling resumes action at 5 p.m. Thursday when the team hosts Moffat County.
Soroco High School also sent five wrestlers to the Middle Park Invitational. Lauryn Bruggink came within one match of placing, but fell just short. Coach Jay Whaley said his team, which is made up of sophomores and freshmen, showed promise at a very tough tournament.
“It’s a progression, and we still have a lot of work to do,” Whaley said.
On Saturday, members of Soroco’s wrestling team are scheduled to travel to Sargent High School near Monte Vista for a tournament. The team will stop Friday in Saquache to practice against the Mountain Valley High School wrestling team prior to the tournament.
