Hayden girls wrap up championship

Pilot & Today staff

— Hayden girls basketball coach Eric Hamilton wasted no words describing his team’s performance Saturday in the championship game of the Meeker Tournament.

“They dominated,” he said.

The Tigers wrapped up the tournament championship with a 59-37 victory against North Park, routing the Wildcats with a strong performance on both ends of the court.

Senior Holli Salazar led the way in scoring for the third consecutive game, this time racking up 19 points. Kylee Sweetser had 11 while Rachael Koehler scored 10.

“We moved the ball around the perimeter really well and got it into those girls all day,” Hamilton said.

A stout defense complemented that offensive effort as Hayden (3-0) shut down North Park’s top scorer, guard Kaitlyn Hanson.

“Caitlin Mahanna was on her and did an awesome job,” Hamilton said. “She was a big part of the win. Our defense was awesome.

“This was our first team goal, to win this championship. We accomplished that, and it was a total team effort.”
