Flash flood watch in effect for Steamboat Springs

— Steamboat Springs and much of the Western Slope is under a flash flood watch until 9 p.m. tonight.

Severe thunderstorms are forecast for much of western Colorado this afternoon and this evening. Heavy rain could result in flash flooding, particularly near steep terrain and in narrow slow canyons, according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service also warns about mud and rock slides.

The severe weather is the result of abundant subtropical moisture, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight’s low is forecast for 52 degrees with a 50 percent chance of rain. Friday’s high temperature will reach into the mid-80s, with an overnight low of 53 degrees. There is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms Friday and Saturday.
