Bust of Steamboat raises more than $39,000

Steamboat Springs — The 10th annual Bust of Steamboat fundraiser brought in $39,526 on Friday. The art auction and Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project fundraiser was held at Three Peaks Grill and brought about 350 people together.
Twenty-three pieces of locally made, bust-inspired art were auctioned off, raising $16,345 — almost twice as much as last year's auction.
Other donations and merchandise sales brought the total to more than $39,000, which is the event's second-largest fundraising year, according to founder Deb Curd.
"That's a testament to the artists, who really stepped up," she said.
The pieces ranged from pink quilts and decorated bras to baked goods and photography. Karen Donoghue's painted cowgirl saddle was voted Bust of Show.
The funds all stay local and go to women who have breast cancer and their families. Last year, the organization gave out $32,800.
