Another 2 feet of snow by Friday?

Staff report

— Once again, Steamboat Springs is expected to bear the brunt of multiple storm systems that could leave almost 2 feet of snow in city limits by Friday morning.

Steamboat is under a snow advisory until midnight tonight. The fast-moving storm will leave 4 to 8 inches of snow before letting up late this evening or early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

However, that system will quickly be replaced by a more powerful one that could bring an additional 8 to 14 inches of snow to Steamboat and surrounding areas by Friday morning. The second system will be accompanied by westerly winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph forecast. A winter storm watch is in effect from Thursday morning until late Thursday evening.

There is a chance of snow Friday and Friday night. Sunny skies will prevail Saturday, with a high temperature of about 30 degrees. Sunday also is forecast for sunny skies and a high temperature of 33 degrees.

The National Weather Service advises motorists to take extreme caution when traveling during winter storms, especially over high mountain passes.

The Steamboat Ski Area reported 2 inches of new snow overnight Tuesday. The mountain has now received 345 inches of snow since late fall. The seasonal average for Mount Werner is 331 inches.
