— An online magazine has aggregated the results of top ski resort listings and placed the Steamboat Ski Area at No. 3 overall.

Adventure Trip Magazine, which bills itself as catering to people “who seek out travel destinations beyond the routine,” gave resorts one point each time they were mentioned on a top 10 list and two points for each No. 1 ranking. Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia, was No. 1 overall, and Vail was No. 2.

Loryn Kasten, spokeswoman for Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., said she hadn’t seen Adventure Trip’s list, which came out last month.

“I can say we’re always excited when people recognize us as a great resort,” Kasten said. “We have all the features that make up a great resort. We’re family friendly, we’ve got great Champagne Powder, incredible tree skiing and great terrain.”

Kasten said she was particularly pleased to hear about the methodology behind the ranking.

“To receive an honor like this where we’re consistently ranked is even better,” she said.

Steamboat Springs’ resort ranked ahead of those in Banff, Alberta; Chamonix Mont Blanc, France; Big Sky, Mont.; Aspen/Snowmass; Cortina, Italy; Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and Alta, Utah. Adventure Trip listed sources including Orbitz, Outside Magazine and Forbes.

Kasten said resort officials were pleased with the listing, adding that the ski area had received other accolades this year.

Skiing Magazine readers chose Steamboat as the No. 1 spot for tree skiing and ranked it in the top five for powder, top 10 for aprÃs scene and top 10 for best resorts in North America. Ski Magazine ranked Steamboat as the No. 1 family resort in the West and the No. 8 resort in North America.

“It’s in a long list, which makes us happy,” Kasten said.
