Food stamp recipients must submit SNAP paperwork by today (Jan. 15) due to government shutdown

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — or SNAP, also known as food stamps — could be impacted by the federal government shutdown if they’re redeterminations are due in January.

In order for February benefits to be determined and issued, food assistance redeterminations and periodic reports must be received and processed by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15. SNAP recipients who don’t turn in redeterminations by that deadline will not receive benefits until the shutdown has ended.

Routt County SNAP recipients seeking redeterminations should drop off their applications at the Routt County Human Services Department, 135 Sixth St., email them to dhsfamed@co.routt.co.us or fax them to 970-870-5260.

If forms are received by the Jan. 15 deadline, benefits will be received before Jan. 20. Call the Human Services office at 970-879-1540 for more information.
