Things looking up for Hayden VB
The Hayden volleyball team hopes to improve after a 16-6 record a year ago. A late stumble by that 2008 squad may help the 2009 team's cause.

The stadium experience
Staging the final night of the Democratic National Convention at Invesco Field, rather than the Pepsi Center, was an idea that created logistical nightmares but also an incredibly energetic scene that ultimately paid off for Democrats.

History is made
Barack Obama's surprise appearance on the Pepsi Center's stage Wednesday night left several convention attendees nearly without words.

When blogs attack
I have to admit, and it pains me somewhat to say this, but you don't see this kind of excitement about newspapers. Blogs are the new hotness, if "new" is even accurate anymore.

Afghanistan top job for next president?
Richard Holbrooke, a former U.S. representative to the United Nations, said Wednesday morning that no matter who the next president is, his toughest and most important job upon taking office is clear.

Hillary knocks 'em dead
Hillary critics at a New York democratic organization party were quickly won over by Sen. Hillary Clinton's headline speech Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Is energy the next Internet boom?
U.S. Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts became the fourth Democrat in the past two days who I've heard place renewable energy development on an incredibly lofty plateau.

Bring back Gov. Moonbeam
The piano player in the best jazz bar in Denver was sporting a faded "Brown '92" shirt. As in Jerry Brown. California's current attorney general, former governor and a three-time candidate for president - in 1976, 1980 and 1992. Jeff Cleveland had saved that shirt for 16 years.

Protestors' message unclear
Sitting next to me was Charles Robinson, a blogger from Maryland. He's an older black man with a weathered face and seen-it-all eyes. I showed him Web reports of protestors getting pepper-sprayed in Civic Center Park. He glanced at the computer screen, sighed and said: "The same ole' sh--."

Hillary overflows the Pepsi Center
I thought nothing would top last night and Teddy Kennedy. Wrong. This scene is ridiculous. Absolutely, incredibly, energized. Looking at the crowd blanketing the stands in white Hillary signs, the word "rabid" comes to mind. Fire marshals closed entrances to all seating areas. Hillary has officially overflowed the Pepsi Center.

Ritter confident about security
I asked Gov. Bill Ritter today about Monday's arrest of at least two men with rifles, ammo and drugs. Initial reports said the men told law enforcement that they were planning to assassinate Obama on Thursday at Invesco Field.

Obama for sale
Denver street vendors have taken the merchandising of Barack Obama to new heights, hawking everything from Obama foam fingers to Obama playing cards, car magnets, T-shirts, buttons and more.

Kennedy steals the show so far
Barack Obama can thank Teddy Kennedy for taking some of the spotlight and media speculation away from Hillary Clinton. The Massachusetts Senator stole the show in the Pepsi Center on Monday night, inspiring a deafening response from the packed crowd and reminding his party about its higher goals and dreams.
