Firstly, I find it interesting that you compare marijuana to a legal substance in terms of its harmful affects (and that often the affects of marijuana are of a lesser consequence).
Secondly, one of your facts: "Smoking one marijuana cigarette deposits about four times more tar into the lungs than a filtered tobacco cigarette."
This always raises a few questions: 1) How many cigarettes are smoked by an average tabacco smoker per day? 2) How many joints are smoked by an average marijuana smoker per day? (Keep in mind that joints are often shared between several people, unlike a majority of cigarettes.) 3) Recalling your answers from 1 and 2, what does the aformentioned fact really mean?
As long as tabacco and alcohol are legal, the anti-marijana camp's only leg to stand on is that it's currently illegal. (Note: I never argue that Marijuana is healthy, mentally or physically.)
Be wary of over-confidence in any technology that hasn't been field tested. Having these machines tested by a handful of people will never simulate a full on election day. Unfortunately we had to learn this truth on the fly.
Please let it be clear that this isn't a jab at Kay and her staff. They did a good job with what they were given.
I care about money being raised for the fight against melanoma. Maybe you should send an e-mail to Ken White and his daughter expressing your very compassionate feelings.
"...we can't have teachers, administrators or students waiting on a fix..."
Would that be something like, "Microsoft has no new security updates planned for Tuesday, despite at least five zero-day vulnerabilities that are waiting to be fixed."? [ http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-61... ]

As far as, "Most companies wont use open source code because it isn't "maintained" by a company that will fix any issues." This notion is not true.
For instance, the linux distribution Ubuntu is currently being developed by the company Canonical Ltd.. There is a section to submit bugs to developers and patched versions of Ubuntu are administered much like Windows Updates.
Though "most" companies do not use OSS, there are some stories in the news to take note of:
At no point am I calling Citrix in to question. Anything I can find on the system makes it appear to be a great way to serve desktops and applications to terminals throughout a network. However, after about thirty seconds of google searching, I found this:
Is OSS the *perfect* solution? No. And at no time am I claiming it to be. However, seeing school district's technical officials ask for 1.37 million dollars before even laying out a potential open source alternative plan is just painful to a *nix user's ears.
No one in particular. I just enjoyed the story and thought it could spark some productive debate about anonymous bloggers (or posters) and the responsibilities/powers of local newspapers.

For anyone worried about not being able to run MS based applications, please research virtualization programs such as WINE.
