Our View: Jump right in, City Council

Let’s see, what stands in the place of the out of style, as you metaphorically put it “wrinkled” buildings. Is it something that reflects western heritage or something that might feel like Steamboat? No. What’s there is a real estate face job of the plastic kind, a reconstruction that in name only (insultingly Howelson place) represents the flavor, the ‘character’ of what is now long gone. As for the development of this community, the closest thing to stewardship is in Hayden on the incoming jets and serving drinks.

Our View: Jump right in, City Council

“Jim Cook will have smart, useful ideas about our town’s future” Are you serious?
Well this much is clear. This made-up, this ‘cooked up’ downtown could be anywhere. Those that wanted an artificial Disneyland main street should be pleased. There is little left that is authentic or original.
Why don’t we just cut to the chase?

I elect

President of the city council
Jim Cook

The new council will be as follows:

Sandy Evans Hall
Andy Wirth
Suellyn Godino
Scott Ford
And heck why not keep Cari Hermacinskiari she has a feel for this new community

Speaker: Challenge is to make beginners lifelong skiers

Perhaps the challenge is to pay for a ticket. For many families the expense of skiing is most times out of reach. As well the "Ski town USA" label only applies to the athletes that have enough money to pay for the exorbitant cost of competing in nordic or alpine. There is likely some amazing talent falling through the cracks because of the expense. Too bad "Ski Town USA" can't find a way to make the sport more accessible to all of its youngsters.

Bob Pensack: 2 boys wept

The United States is the only first world nation without some form of a universal health care system.

Here is a list of countries that supply some form of universal health care for their citizens:

Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Cuba, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and the United Kingdom

Move to Mexico "where the government takes care of everything for them." ????
I bet the people living in cardboard shacks in the poverty ridden border town of Juarez would love to know that the government will take care of every thing and they just didn't know it.

Have you heard of Steven Hawking? You can look him up on your 'puter'.

He is a beneficiary of British health-care system and otherwise would not have survived.

But by your so called plan he should not or would not be alive.

Why the hate and anger? It is obvious that YOU need a heart transplant.
Maybe we should let only the perfect children of the world survive. Maybe just the blond-haired blue eyed beauties. A superior race?

Can you not accept that there are those that have a completely different perspective than you? As a self employed individual my household is held hostage. We as a family have been quite healthy. But my spouse two years ago needed surgery. So all of the sudden not only did that premium DOUBLE but mine. We have been unable to change insurance companies because of our age and my spouse's now preexisting condition. Now with combined premiums of over 1000 dollars a month. If one of us has an illness and becomes unable to work, what happens?

What about reformed heath care? Oh now, rant about the long lines and inferior treatment.

There are countries like Denmark where the population is VERY happy with their healthcare.

The United States is a young country and needs to grow up. Most of the civilized world just shakes their head at our immaturity, insolence and arrogance.

The United States is the only first word nation without a universal system of doctors and medical clinics.

But aichempty, I don't imagine the rest of the world fits on your small planet.

And its quite obvious that compassion is not part of your view.

City to revisit vacation home rentals

Having a hotel in your neighborhood? This is an issue of degree. Rentals that can sleep eight are quite different than a monstrosity that can sleep over twenty. What is the cut off point? Hotels and other lodging operations must adhere to safety and handicap access codes do these nightly rentals? Where do you draw the line? As a way to finance second homes this has been a huge marketing tool for Steamboats property salesmen. There will be stomping and yelling from the Steamboat chamber if there is even a sniff of regulation. So as usual nothing will change. Tourists and second homeowners come first, full time residents come last.

Bear meeting held in Aspen

Has anyone factored in the beetle kill issue? Habitat is changing for the entire food chain. What impact do the dying trees have on say the rodent population? Mice, Squirrels, Rabbits? Perhaps the rapidly changing ecosystems are squeezing the bears into places they should not be. Couple that with the increase of uninformed home owners and maybe that's the recipe for trouble.
