Little common ground in historic preservation debate

ColoradoNative: The City Council is too inept to deal with the big issues, such as traffic and parking. This preservation stuff is just so they can appear as if they are doing something.

Dogs kill pet at Dumont Lake

I was out doing the Causeway on Tuesday. There was a herd of 1000 sheep out there - on the trail. We didn't have any dogs with us, however, the gaurd dog followed at our heels growling and barking the entire time. The herder was nowhere to be found. I could actually feel the dog's breath on the back of my legs. My question would be if that dog did attack one of us, would we have the right to shoot it? What's the law there?
How about keeping the sheep out of those high traffic areas? Having all of those sheep grazing directly on the trail to the Devil's Causeway seems like an incredible lack of judgement on the herders part.

Formula stores up for debate

I also find myself in the incredibly awful situation of agreeing with Cook. What a major jolt to my system. If you are interested, you can read more at seven.collective-b.org/

Housing law on doorstep

Another question I would like to ask is if this 'linkage' fee only applies to buildings/homes within city limits?

"Using other communities' information about their enacting inclusionary zoning and the building trends and housing costs that changed afterward, I am confident we will be positively affecting our community."
What other communities? I thought the whole goal was to keep Steamboat from becoming like these "other communities".

I guess everyone will just have to remodel their homes in 499 square foot sections.

Balloon Rodeo sails to lake

Does anyone else feel like Steamboat Springs is turning into one enormous condominium complex?
Event after event that makes this town special gets messed around with. My favorite part of the balloon rodeo was being able to view it from the top of the circle, especially at night. They have an event that "brings many tourists to town" and offers no parking. Brilliant.

Mike Lawrence: Consultants cost city more than $1.3 million

Mike,
Thank you for your post. I wasn't clear on the temporary location for the seniors. Yes, the city has found them a temporary home, However, it isn't ready and the seniors's last day down at the community center is this Thursday. They also have nowhere to go for all of next week and it is unknown when the temporary site will be ready.
Sorry if this is off-topic.

Mike Lawrence: Consultants cost city more than $1.3 million

@WZ4EVER
Exactly the comment I wanted to make. City Council throws these amazing amounts of money at these consultants who then give those same members their findings and suggestions and then what?
Here's my guess:
City Council then sits on their butts ignoring all of the information and then when they decide to act they have to redo the study, hire more consultants and then the cycle just continues.
Do I sound a bit angry? I am actually furious.
City Council sat around twiddling their thumbs on the whole Community Center project, whining about the cost. They seem to have found nearly half a million $s laying around. Now the library wants to start their project which means that the community center has to be vacated next week. City Council also dragged their feet on finding the seniors a temporary home and now they have nowhere to go. When you are 90 years old and having lunch down at the center is your only form of socializing it's a pretty big deal.
I, unfortunately (or fortunately), do not live within City limits and therefore can't vote for council members.
I am begging the good folks who can vote to NOT re-elect these people.
I would also like to make a request of anyone who may have a little spare time next week. Adopt a senior. They are the real losers for City Council's ineptitude.

Street vendors not likely

"...I think any vibrancy we can have on the street, that makes it look like something other than construction is happening, is a good idea."

How about getting a crew together to sweep the sidewalks under the scaffolding that runs past the construction sites? I felt like I was in NYC with all of the trash and dirt that has accumulated.
There's all this talk about sprucing things up for the summer. What about now? Do the locals have to put up with the filth until the summer tourists show up?

Bracing for construction
