Stripes cause strife

CR 14 from Brooklyn to Tree Haus has a 9' vehicle travel lane, and anywhere from 0 - 1.5' to the right of the white stripe. Go measure it, I did. The portion of CR 36 known as the Shelf Rd., running above the schools from North Park to Amethyst has only a 1 - 2' lane for non-motorized users, and the new striping will reduce this to zero at some points. This section sees a tremendous level of non-motorized use, and will become much more dangerous with the traffic speeds around 40mph (posted as 30 mph) and nowhere to go. Poor decision.

Cyclists spurned

This is not simply a cyclists vs motorists issue! Their is a wide mix of non-motorized use on this road, look at the front page of the Today paper with this article. There are nearly as many runners, walkers and horses that use this roadway on a daily basis as there are cyclists. Very few motorists follow the letter of the law on this road (speed limit, running stop signs at Amethyst and CR38 intersections), so why focus on the minority of cyclists who don't follow the law either? Doug and Nancy need to get out of their vehicles and travel as a non-motorized user to do justice to their views on safety for all users. This action will reduce the size of the non-motorized user lane all the way past the schools on Amethyst as well (currently the same width as CR36), compromising safety for any kids using these routes to get to our schools. Is this the right message for our county to send our youth?

Our View: DeVincentis strikes again

DeVincentis is passionate about holding grudges against anyone who signed the petition for his recall. His verbal onslaught after the meeting pointedly referred to the "chicken____ (coward) who signed the petition", and had nothing to do with anything discussed at the meeting that night. He knows every name on those petition sheets, and obviously his anger over that whole ordeal is still very close to the surface. If you had anything to do with supporting the recall effort, you and your family get a big black mark in his book. Just hope you never need to go before the Board for anything, as you have one vote against you. So much for caring for all the kids.
