HA HA I joke, the RCRiders don't do impact studies, they just build. The new trail is on Orton's land and nothing is required in the way of impact studies or aproval process besides the nod from the landowner. I do think there is a conection to this new trail and the sightings of the Quarry cat, and i hope that the cat dosn't get more agressive, or conditions will not be favorable for it's continued existance.
rbd44; Do you think the trail's impact on the wildlife was not taken into account when the RCRiders built the new trail? Should something be done about this? I like the new trail but don't think we should kill or have to displace wildlife for our recreation.
Karen a flaw in your logic is the fact that while Superior/Broomfield was expanding and building those new shopping stores, the population of the front range more than doubled. When I lived in Boulder in the late 80's, there was nothing between Denver and Boulder, now thousands of homes and businesses line this busy road. That growth is what allowed both Home Depot and McGuckins Hardware to flurish. Untill we see that type of growth curve in the Vampa Valley, a Home Depot or Lowes will just close local businesses. Even a fully built out 700 wont bring enough new people to the valley to support multiple BB stores, and bringing them in will ultimatly put local businesses on the ropes triing to compete with a BB whose prices are supported by a national chain and kept artifically lower to attract customers at the expense of locals that need to charge more in order to keep the doors open.
This cat has been seen for a couple of months now, I wonder how Rick thinks the interaction between humans and the Quarry cat will be resolved?
I for one hope the Quarry cat can survive it's continued interactions with us humans, and wonder if the city's P&Rec. will step up and restrict use on Emerald to perserve habatit for this cat before a bad interaction brings about the demise of this cat.
Great idea lets plow the parks into housing. Rita gave us a park to save the open space, her wishes should come before development. Strawberry park is already private property how do you propose we evict the people that already own homes there?
We don't need a referendum, we need voters with foresight to elect reps to government that represent the citizens who put them into office.
That's why we vote in representatives to City Council, so that we would not have to vote personally on every issue. If you didn't do your homework, and voted in the wrong rep. Who's fault is that? If you are not being well represented by your current councilmember vote him/her out, and run yourself. If your views are supported by the majority, things will go your way, if not, be aware that the majority rules and take the decision of the majority and do what you can with it knowing that your opionion is the minority and that consessions in your ideas must be made to the majority for everyone to move foreward.

Not being from the Steamboat area, but making a contribution to the discussion regarding James Strickland, I feel it necessary to keep you informed of the developments that have transpired since my dropping off James yesterday morning. Below is the email that I wrote to the men's group a couple of hours ago that had breakfast with James yesterday. This was immediately after a call I recieved from James. It is only fair that I share this with the citizens of Steamboat Springs:.
I just received a call from James Strickland. He told me that he didn't make it out of Bountiful yesterday as they were having their (Days of '47 Parade) there. The road (Hwy 89) was too congested w/ parade participants. He tried to go onto the interstate but was stopped by a highway patrol and was told he couldn't walk on the interstate. He said that yesterday, after I dropped him off in Bountiful, was one of the most difficult days he's had on his journey. He told me he was laughed at, ridiculed, made fun of, etc. He also confessed to me that he wasn't completely forthright with us yesterday. He neglected to tell us that he was on a parole violation in Washington for burglary. He said that he violated his parole by leaving Washington to see his family (mother) in Texas, like he told us, and that in addition to "carrying the cross", upon his return to Aberdeen, he will surrender himself to authorities for his parole violation.
I'm telling you this because his story is to be printed in tomorrow's Park Record with the addition of his parole violation. In case you've told some about our guest yesterday, I didn't want this fact to come as a surprise. James wanted me to let you all know how welcoming we made him feel at breakfast and that that has been one of his bright spots during his journey. As uplifting as breakfast was for him yesterday, his experiences in Bountiful made him feel ashamed. He acknowledged that he should have told us the whole truth and apologized for not doing so. He knows that he has to live up to what he's done and is trying his best to make it right. He apologized for not being completely honest with us.

Our View: Pot ordinance goes too far
I saw on the news that Breckenridge is thinking about total legalization. It's on this Nov. ballot.
