Count me in among the “children” with a Wii on the Christmas list. My son has a Wii and brings it over for the family to play on Sundays when we have a family dinner. I have been introduced to Wii Fitness and did 25 minutes of exercise without even realizing it. I am also an expert hula hooper and a terrible driver. Exercise was never this much fun before!

A small gathering, people watching space which could include public bathrooms, the babbling of the creek and some grass would be a welcome addition to all the tall buildings being constructed downtown. It would definitely break up the block upon block of buildings fronting Lincoln Ave. Would the public be interested making this happen? It would probably take private donations, grants, manual labor to construct and ongoing maintenance fees in the future. Maybe an Adopt-A- Park or Friends of Space Station Park program would be the way to go.

Congratulations, Taryn. Recover is not always (or rarely is) the case. Those teenage years can be so cruel!

While Alan Lanning is not a warm and fuzzy guy, I find him to be professional in his interpretation of the codes that have been established by the people. In his time as City Manager he has hired strong people to head both the Public Works and Finance departments. His staff likes him and morale is higher than it has been in years. Alan seems to be a person who takes things in, evaluates them and responds with appropriate actions. If we don't want codes or ordinances followed to the letter, change them. He is doing his JOB, folks. Personally, I find Alan to be a very private guy. He isn't outspoken or warm and fuzzy. The real estate sign problem is just that, a problem. Real estate signs proliferate in the public right of way and we have known this for years. A particular local has been pointing out this problem and it has been ignored for years. Code enforcement, and all enforcement for that matter, seems to be selective. What are the rules for if they are ignored? Just my humble opinion….

Thanks, Trevor G. for putting a voice to the need for music other than just late-night. You put it very well when you say that some people would like music earlier in the evening, before 10 pm… and all kinds of music, not just hard rock. Just because some of us are over 40 doesn't mean we don't like good music as well. It will be interesting to see what the Ghost Ranch Saloon offers when it opens.

Good ideas, Casius. Solutions rather than gripes. What a concept!

The new community center is a beautiful facility that we all can be proud of. It is light and bright with beautiful hardwood floors, a dividable space for multiple uses and will be a wonderful place for weddings, family gatherings, community meetings and multiple other uses. It is a warm and welcoming place. The location next to the Stockbridge Center will provide plenty of parking in what has been a terribly underused public parkling lot. There is public transportation to the facility, and a playground for children while a function is going on. With the core trail running right past the back of the building, it is accessible by many modes of transportation. While proponants of building more parking at that location would disagree, it was the right thing to build this facility in this location not only for the seniors but for the entire community. With the proposed interpretive center at the Stockbridge Center to reflect the history of the Stockbridge and our cattle- and sheep-ranching heritage, this area will become a hub of activity in the not too distant future.

colowoodsman, you better check your facts. The Routt County Economic Cooperative is not part of the Chamber. Noreen was originally hired as the “economic gardener” and was housed within the Chamber but that changed a couple of years ago. Routt County and the City now share her and she DOES represent the people of Routt County as well as the City.

On Should Intrawest do more to expand nightlife options, such as a large venue for live music, in Steamboat Springs?

Maybe it doesn't have to be Intrawest, but there definitely needs to be a venue for music and dancing that starts long before 10 pm, can accommodate name bands of all kinds, and can draw a crowd. Music is a draw.
