Matt, thanks for clarifying. I agree with part of what you say. When I said this board has not asked for Howell's head, I didn't mean that I think they should. I think I'd rather see everyone try to 'get along' for two more years. As far as the executive sessions, I think it's important to remember that the board has legal requirements on both sides: they are required to go into exec session to discuss personnel matters which should not be public. (rules that are posted somewhere on the school district site) They're also required by the open meetings rule to have most things public. The exec sessions you're referring to did involve personnel matters, as I recall.
Re the board doing more to admonish D. - well, they said they disapproved of the e-mails and D. apologized. How else could they admonish him other than asking him to resign? Maybe there would have been something else to do, I don't know. Just wondering.
It's cool that you use your name. For whatever reason, I bet this forum wouldn't flow as well or have as much info if everyone did. I will tell you I'm a parent and I'm not on the board or even good friends with anyone on the board!

Matt - the reason this board conducted an investigation was to “keep this crap from happening again.” Policies were broken and this board didn't want to just let it go. I'm not getting how you think the current board members (other than John D. who admitted his mistake and apologized) do not have “clean hands.” Arguments like those of sbs123 have become so repetitve and lame: trash John, trash John, trash John, and we only care about the “truth” that works for our side. Now that some other truths have come out, it's just that “DeVincentis and his crew have twisted the truth and expect people to actually believe them.” Why even bother to post this stuff? You just look so foolish. It is really disappointing what Howell did but so far I haven't heard the board calling for her head. Maybe everyone will finish out their terms??? Maybe not. In any case, the next board meeting is Wed. the 11th, public comment at 6:30.

Actually, bikegirl, it's not a very complex concept: providing information to people is not bullying.
However, according to the definitions of bullying which you've so graciously directed us to, you might have to consider yourself a bully. People who repeatedly insult someone even when the discussion is about something else may even have an obsessive personality disorder or perhaps the dreaded OHJ (Obsessed with Hating John) syndrome. For example, I say, “I'm glad they hired a new principal.” And you say, “Devincentis is sick but Gleason is noble.”

Joe -I'm saying that after Gleason resigned and the e-mails came out, there were three other people on the board. None of them wanted John to resign and none of them want a recall. I think I'd trust their judgement before I trust a bunch of former board members who won't cooperate with an investigation.

Joe - if he's been such a bad board member, then why don't the current board members want him to resign? Maybe your problem is with this entire board and their 'new direction.'

CoJustice - You SO did not get the point. The “benefit of the community” unfortunately has been nowhere in site.

elphaba- Sorry but your whole comment is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. “Reprisals against them and their children” - give me a break.

another local: Read it:
“We don’t need to repeat reasons for opposing the recall and the SOS RE2 group. But we will tell you why we think it would be an incredibly unwise move on the part of the newspaper to go ahead with a pro-recall editorial.”
the “issue” was already addressed in many letters in the Sunday paper. And one of the main points that is not mentioned here was that we need to protect the political process and not allow underhanded and possibly illegal tactics to win.

letter (cont.):
I encourage everyone to really learn the facts first and both sides of the story, then and only then should you consider signing a recall petition. But by signing the petition you are saying that as a community we no longer support open, honest, legal discussion regarding our political officials, but carefully orchestrated smear campaigns where the ends supposedly justify the means; Where it only matters what you say, not what you do.
As a father of two children at Strawberry Park Elementary and as a member of a family which includes school administrators, principals and teachers I can’t compliment Dr. D. enough for his leadership while principal at Strawberry Park. Our kids adore Dr. D. and they strive to achieve the excellence he instilled in them. His 25 years as a well loved administrator by almost all of the parents and teachers did not deserve to be destroyed by this vindictive act, regardless of how you feel about him personally.
The problem is some old Board members don’t like the changes taking place and they are trying to throw a community leader under the bus to keep it from happening, rather then wait for the public to decide.
Please do not sign the sign the petition for all the reasons mentioned above.

The Pilot did print the investigation - it was on July 4. It's at
http://www2.steamboatpilot.com/news/2007…
You can also view it at www.sssd.k12.co.us. The transcripts of the actual interviews are supposedly going to be out as of tomorrow which I bet will be even more telling.
