Skiing readers rank Steamboat No. 9

not bad for a ski mountain base that's looks half outdated and half bombed out. we'll climb up the list eventually since we're near the top in actual skiing for a ski magazine.

Emerald development proposed

"The time has come for me to determine the ultimate destiny of the land under my stewardship on Emerald Mountain," he wrote. "When I die, my estate will sell the 1,200 acres to help pay taxes."

Not if he has the aforementioned family foundation.

Fireworks blast Steamboat

Watching the fireworks above town, it did seem something went awry at the end of the show.... the tamer display just before the lull that we thought would usher in the finale, the truck that appeared to be racing up the switchbacks to the top of Howelson, the music still playing on the radio, the lights remaining dim in the arena....

Or maybe this is the new 'trend' at the firework conventions... skip the finale.

Up till the perceived premature ending, the display was excellent, nicely timed, with beautiful pictures in the sky. Nicely done!

Complete Routt County election results

What a relief the Rec Center referendums failed! I mostly saw signs in their favor and worried that non-property owners would surge the vote against us property owners into paying for their center.

I'm not against a Rec Center, I'd just like to see another way to build one without raising our taxes. Besides Steamboat is an overwhelmingly outdoor community, even in winter, so a Rec Center wouldn't serve us as well as it would a big city where all the fields are covered with concrete.

Now go outside and play!
