Candidates concerned mail-only ballots are affecting turnout

Wow!! No where on my ballot does it say that it is a mail-in only election.

Our View: Right move is to sign lease with New West Inns

Governments should never, ever get into commercial enterprises which compete with those from whom their tax revenues flow.

You mean like the military?

Local grocery workers could strike

Only companies that deserve unions have them. Unions are another proof that power corrupts, but they are also proof that business will only treat its workers with as little respect/ compensation as it can. Most comments above are union; pro/con, and ignore the reason for the potential strike. How is it that the workers in the front range earn a dollar more an hour for the same job. This is the same front range where you can pay almost 10-15% less for the groceries then we do here. It must be that the quality of life here so much better, or the cost of living lower here that the grocery business can pay a lower wage. Hmm. As individuals the grocery workers would have no way to negotiate a wage; so their only option is to group together. There is plenty of evidence of unions behaving poorly, and abusing the power that the group gave them, but this is equalled if not over shadowed by the behavior the companies that employ them. Only companies that deserve unions have them.

Our View: Holding out hope for a new post office

To occupant of Post Office Box 77....
Questions.
1. Could some one please explain why we use only P.O. Box's or cluster box's- most other places I've lived had home delivery FOR FREE.
2. If the city is so interested in getting citizen's to use the cluster boxes, why do they continue to make it so challenging to expand and place boxes around town.
3. With @ 7,000 boxes at around $40 a year, in whose interest is it to keep us going to post office for mail.
4. Do people in the county receive free home delivery?
5. Does it bother anyone else that we pay for the privilege to receive 90% junk mail at our inconvenience to the detriment of our environment.

Rob Douglas: Something's got to give

---while spending funds on utopian projects and community groups--
What are these groups and projects being referred to?
A library, a community center, a golf course, a tennis center, a teen center, remodeled schools, bus service, consultation on; growth needs assessments, traffic flows, and development...
I'm sure there are more, what should we say no to?

Steamboat Springs officials take action after fire in apartment

Even when you have gone through all the hoops to meet code, the city is slowing down EMS response time by refusing to name the alleys of old town. Nor are they enforcing the utility wire clearances so that rescue vehicles can safely traverse all our streets.
