Family struggles to keep tortilla business afloat after accusation

On a personal note: the Mendozas are just lovely people and have struggled with some health and other challenges, like many rest of us. Everyone in the family works to do their part, and Gonzolo, in addtion to his volunteering for the Communidad Integrada board, works tirelessly and yet still has a smile on his face when its all done. And Luz is a star. May their spirit of entrepeneurship continue and be an inspiration to all of us.

Experts offer last-minute tips to save energy and reduce costs

We should heed the advice of Lyn and Tristan - they know what they are talking about. For some buildings the fruit is actually dangling on the ground, and trust them, if you take a few small actions you will see an improvement in your comfort levels and a reduction in your heating bills. And when you get a taste of what's possible, there are even more cost-effective solutions to improve the energy efficiency of your building and positively affect its value for lease or sale.

City expects overdue water study this week

And of course the volume of consumption per user is a key denominator, whether it be for full time residences, rental units, hotels, and different types of businesses. Currently we waste enormous amounts of water, very valuable water. I understand that this report will contain recommendations on how we can see future reductions in water consumption compared with past usage. Because in the end the equation is about Supply and Usage. I believe that we have only just begun to address consumption. While the number of users may increase, do you thinks its possible to reduce the consumption per user? Indeed there is a lot of potential to do so regardless of whether 700 comes to fruition. And I believe it should be a part of the discussion surrounding 700 and water. Will it be stipulated in code for 700 that it require more efficient water appliances and systems, or will standard city code apply? Is low water landscaping mandated there etc. What about for the rest of the city? There are many ways to affect a lower demand on our scarce and expensive water supply that make great business sense.

Ski Corp. launches airfare Web site

It is said that the site is "bi-directional" however I see currently that only in-bound flights can be searched. Is this correct, and if so, when will it be useable for itineraries that originate at HDN?

Kudos to Ski Corp et al for driving fare deals.

Aspen Skiing Co. to join green push

Great program, modeled after Boulder's enormously successful ClimateSmart. Routt County would do well to consider something similar to drive homeowner dollar and energy savings through cost-effective energy efficiency investments paid through increased property taxes on only participating properties.

Jon Quinn: A councilman's duty

To Jon Quinn, elected representative, I say "Thanks for the letter". There is a balance (or challenge, however one may view it) in a representational democracy between electing a rep based on his/her views and expecting them to then make decisions as they see fit, and expecting our representatives to make decisions that reflect the majority view of their constituents. I wish each person who is part of the determining group, whether it be Council or the residents of the City, the greatest clarity, wisdom and diligence in attaining and reviewing the requisite information and applying these to our community.

Skatepark rolls toward reality

This is just great. Kudos to all those who have collaborated, and/or donated to make this happen.

The fact that this has not previously eventuated does give one pause. A skatepark is a wonderful amenity for locals and visitors alike and is ubiquitous globally now and can serve as a place for positive activity for area youth. It seems relevant to question our community's priorities when we speak about the importance of youth in our community and then haven't done the hard yards to get this accomplished sooner. Many other efforts supported by a wealthier and perhaps more influential demographic, or those supporting tourism (which the savvy marketer will realize the skatepark does too) have come to pass while the needs of a younger, less affluent group have been bypassed.

Nicole Miller: Triathlons are easy*

Well done. And well written. Setting goals (and usually following some sort of plan -not so much in your case:) ) is a wonderful way to ensure that we continue to move towards our dreams, to build the energy that carries us. You had me smiling early and often today Nicole.
