Mr. Engleken and Mr. Bennett were partners in a development company. It is absurd to say Jim is an indpedent thinker and also absurd to think they are against growth and development. The reason they backed out of the Hayden development was they got caught by the residents of Hayden!
Ironic that Kevin Bennett is a developer in Ft. Collins and a would-be developer in Hayden but is running on an anti-developer platform here. Would the real Kevin Bennett please stand up?
A vote for Jim and Kevin is a vote to regress to nasty politics - secret deals - and development that benefits financially only Jim and Kevin and their cronies. It was the Ken Brenner/Susan Dellinger Council that was wildly pro-development and they were protoges of these two. Spare us!
Kevin on Council would be one small step back for Kevin and one gigantic leap backward for Steamboat Springs and its citizens.
Don't gloss over the corruption and unpleasantness that characterized his time on Council. What this means is "no growth" unless Kevin or his friends can directly and personally benefit.
Charging $1,200 for one-half of a motel room (infested and substandard) is not doing anyone any favors. Adding insult to injury for those employees is having phantom income reported to the IRS. The "tax law" that the CIty is worried about is a result of their own overvaluation of the housing. They apparently were trying to make an Enterprise Fund break even so it's the employees who now have to pay! What kind of assistance is that????????
Yet another example of the last City Council's bungling and ineptness. Deed restriction is not a viable method of supplying housing. Let them be rental units.
Engelken supports more open space, less growth
