Locals featured on 'Webisode' about active baby boomers

This article is about a couple featured in a video podcast .
Have you guys seen the video .It is a very touching story about a single mother .Coletta is not rich and owns no trophy 35 acre ranch .They own a lot more than 35 acres(outside of the county).Bob Mcconnell is an outfitter by trade .He is not a dimestore want-to-be cowboy.
He is the real deal,a professional horseman .
They both ski the winters, doing what they love to earn an living working at the ski mountain .
I was fortunate to work with them and know them .Coletta was not refering to ranching as bumming, she is not a rancher.
She is a former lawyer, who is not rich, who loves horses and skiing .However she is married to a cowboy .
If you look at the comments by greenwash on other posts,he loves to bash everyone .So take the time to think or research before you speak, and learn to love people rather than being so angry at the world.

Triple Crown needs assurances

$1.19 million dollars for 3 weeks pays for a lot of infrastructure. We enjoy a large library,Howelsen Hill,a new community center, tennis bubble and so on.We have as much infrastructure as a town of 100,000.If infrastructure is not your thing and you want a less hectic environment, this is a great time to cash out and move to a place like Steamboat was in the 70's.I don't own a business here in Steamboat, neither do all the complainers on this forum. If not for the tourist we wouldn't have all the nice infrastructure you enjoy. If you are a tax payer, get ready to pay up if you run off the tourists.Anyway my 2 cents.Dispite our views we all need to spread the love to any tourist or visitor to the valley. This is a friendly town,we need to continue that tradition.

Triple Crown needs assurances

Most towns would gladly welcome the TC.Most towns are seeking ways to improve their economy. Is Steamboat so well off financially that they don't need tourists, let's close the gates and keep people out?Look at how many businesses have gone out of business downtown. We should welcome revenue from families. This is a family friendly resort town. Some people want Steamboat to be a closed community and keep the tourist out.If it wasn't for the tourists paying the bills, purchasing goods and some purchasing condos we wouldn't have a big library nor afford to keep the doors open at Howelsen Hill(costs is $600,000 a year).I don't own a business here,I work out of my home. The lack of tourists won't effect me,but the loss of their revenue will effect everyone. We either need to close Howelsen Hill Ski area(I hope not I have 3 kids in SSWSC)or raise taxes to compensate for the loss of income, when you run off the tourists. If you want Steamboat all to yourself you need to move to a place like Hayden or Red Lodge MT.They are both quiet and like Steamboat was in the 70's.

Lincoln Avenue makeover

Downtown property is and will be more valuable so alot 70's looking structure will go by the wayside as higher and better use buildings will be substituted. This has meant more condos.Parking will be tougher,as will traffic. The downtown is so unique and beautiful careful planning is needed and architectural guideilnes must be historical and enforced.Look at cities such as downtown Bozeman as an example. The downtown is what makes Steamboat unique among all other ski towns/resorts.It is exciting to see careful planning in place to keep Steamboat growing yet beautiful.

Omar M. Campbell: Project mess

Taxes in Steamboat are so low when compared to places with the schools, library, parks etc.that Steamboat has.It has 1/3 the taxes of where I'm from with similar schools and the rest.My relatives pay the same taxes in N.C. as Steamboat and have a library the size of a gas station, schools 25 years behind Steamboat and no parks etc.Steamboat is not a backward out post. There are areas which may have lower taxes but you will have to do without all that you have in Steamboat.Just my 2 cents.
