School Board finds no violations in Knezevich contract decision

Those are some great follow-up comments. I say nobody is perfect and if you think you can do the job better(which seems obvious), than by all means, step up to the plate and get yourself involved. Dr. D is not perfect-none of us are- yet he does put all of his heart into it and after all, what in the world is wrong with bringing a little passion to the job. Seriously, this is Steamboat and and a whole lot of passion and scrappiness is what has built this town! Some times you gotta watch what you wish for. I'll take Dr. D over most others in his field any day. Again, he puts his heart and soul into it and if so many think they can do it better, well then awesome, the candidate pool should be absolutely huge this year!

School Board finds no violations in Knezevich contract decision

80488 mom is right on. Dr D has nothing but the interest of the kids at heart. Remember, 99% of all your thoughts and opinions of him start with our illustrious newspapers negative, slanderous comments regarding him. This paper, when it has an ax to grind, whether the reason is personal or political, is a vicious, malicious instrument of divisiveness. Put yourselves above it and get to know the man before you formulate your opinions of him based on the biased writing of someone else. He has dedicated himself to making the schools better. Is he perfect?, of course not, but who is and who else is willing to fight the battles, the personal attacks and the slanderous comments he has endured?

Dream Island under contract

Jim Cook is single handedly changing the complexion of our town and is facing absolutely no reprecussions. Can anyone tell me why Triple Crown is perceived as our biggest villian??? Families, with their kids, playing sports while pumping millions into our local economy and we make them the focal point of our derision??? Seriously, this guy is making us all look like fools and is laughing all the way to the bank. (Hopefully his bank is Alpine).

Rob Douglas: Horrific crime rekindles debate

I enjoy reading Mr. Douglas' articles however this time I have to strongly disagree. Child rape is a crime that no rational, sane person could ever even begin to contemplate. A father raping his own child is simply too horrific a crime to imagine. These crimes are so brutal and so very damaging to their victims that the death penalty is really the only punishment that fits such an evil crime. When you steal the soul from a child like that you should expect no quarter and no mercy. I'm sorry, I know this sounds harsh but really, the "father" who rapes his daughter is far too big a risk to society to be allowed to ever inflict that damage on any other person. Castration first, then capital punishment.

Closing weekend crackdown

Seriously....this is SKI TOWN USA! It is, and always will be, a MAJOR LEAGUE tourist destination spot. If so very unhappy with the tourists, I would suggest a move to Walden.

Closing weekend crackdown

Sitting in my office, watching the snow coming down outside padding what is already a deep base on a CLOSED mountain, almost brings a tear to my eye. Sure, I could break out the backcountry gear and start hiking, but that is really not the point. THIS FREAKIN MOUNTAIN SHOULD STILL BE OPEN!!!!!!!! Sorry, but it really does bum me out that we have epic skiing right now (the snow this past week was fabulous) and the lifts are silent and barren. Oh, that's right, they closed early to begin construction. Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!? They won't be able to commence work on the base area for AT LEAST 2 weeks. No respect nor regard for the locals and particularly the season pass holders who shelled out $1000 for an abbreviated ski season. Kinda brings one thought to mind..... BRING BACK THE JAPANESE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Closing weekend crackdown

Pretty funny that there is actually a debate going on as to what a "gaper" actually is and what the day is all about. I agree with those that claim a "gaper" is ANY clueless individual on the hill and it is obviously and most certainly not tourists only. The concept of Gaper Day was for locals to get out and have some fun and laughs with each other.....it was never inspired by a desire to hurt, embarrass or otherwise bring any harm to other skiers on the mountain. I was kidding about the Cute Bump Off coming back but that is exactly what happened there as well. What started as a fun event for true local skiing fanatics had gotten taken over by "Gapers" posing as real skiers and as such, no more bump off. It was no longer about skiing hard and having a little fun. It became, instead, a drunken debacle with very, very little personal responsibility involved. It's sad but true and you really can't blame ski-corp for taking extra precautions to protect the majority of the skiers (PAYING customers) on their mountain. Times, they are a changing people!

Intrawest unveils new season pass prices

tuff????guy??? I'm not whining. Just stating my thoughts and feelings. Can't help but to feel wronged and disrespected by the ownership of our mountain.....and I promise you there are a great deal of people who feel the same. Course it's nice when somebody who has probably lived here for a total of 3-5 months tells you (anonymously of course) to "go away". What exactly does that mean ???tuff????guy???

Intrawest unveils new season pass prices

20 season passes and this is the last one for me and my family. Closing on the 6th as opposed to the 13th is just plain wrong. Really?, I can hike the mountain now? Wow, thanks a ton. However, since I have a JOB, I kinda need to have the lifts running so I can enjoy the mountain. Now, as if the early closure wasn't bad enough, an hour earlier closing on Sunday so I can't ski at all. Really, it's no more than a great big F-YOU from Intrawest to the local community. They could have scaled the lift operation back(Gondi, Storm and Elkhead) and nobody would be griping at all. It is a stone-cold fact that the forest service has NOTHING to do with the early closure. And as for that lame bit of nonsense that perhaps they want to start the construction sooner? Please, there still is that massive amount of snow to deal with. Hiked up to the microwave yesterday and the stick is reading 121" of snow. LAME. Next year it'll be the Colorado Super pass for me and I'll make most of my turns at WinterPark or Copper where they treat the local population with at least a gram of respect.
