Iron Horse decision planned

pt22 - perhaps you should get the facts before you comment. The private businesses rent the rooms at market price and THEY then subsidize their employees by renting the rooms to their employees at a lower rate. Additionally, where in the article does it state that there are 4 people sharing a 2-bed room. As I understand it, there are several units with two bedrooms, each having two beds. Perhaps the four occupants opted for this arrangement to keep their individual costs down. Everyone realizes that all the facts can't be relayed in a short newspaper article.

As for maid service for the employee units, again, you need to get the facts. Please remember that this facility is still a hotel and those rooms rented on a nightly basis must be cleaned and maintained.

It seems that many of the folks commenting in this forum don't truly understand the issue and the community's economic need for viable workforce housing that the private sector is NOT willingly providing. Sbvor is a coward and a bully who offers the same rhetoric, and continues to hide behind the veil of an anonymous forum rather than offering a real solution. Perhaps Sbvor might attend a City Council meeting or seek the facts from City staff in order to more fully understand the issue. It's easy to throw stones from afar.

Iron Horse decision planned

Did I miss something? Are City Council members elected to do work for which staff is hired or are they the policy makers? I believe the headline says it all - Council make a decison - do you want workforce housing or don't you. If the answer is yes, then let your staff carry out your policy decision. If the answer is no, then direct your staff to dispose of the Iron Horse. Just pick one and let's move on to the next policy topic.

Builders aim for February

Watch the video associated with this article. Mr. Gliniecki clears up the issue about the drywall, which is not made of recycled material but rather the scraps from this project are diverted from the landfill by offering it for reuse. While much of a LEED project is about using recycled materials, it also includes how much material does NOT go to the landfill, but becomes available for recycling or reuse.

Knowitall - please tell all of us how much experience you have with a LEED project.

It appears that this City project is meant to provide a better understanding of how to build in a more energy efficient and environmentaly friendly manner and to be a role model for the rest of the community.

All construction projects don't need to be LEED certified, but a lot can be learned by using the LEED methods as a guideline to better building practices.

sbvor- you are so busy trying to be "correct" all the time that you even have to correct my handle's spelling. It's a handle! It's not supposed to be spelled correctly.

Council sets priorities

sbvor - "What I HATE is the inappropriate, demonstrably counterproductive, and downright destructive intrusion on the part of government into the delivery of goods an services which ALL of human history PROVES is best left to Private Markets." Please tell all of us who in the private sector will plow the roads, who will provide police and fire services, who will provide parks, open space and recreational opportunities? You say that history has proven the delivery of goods and services should be left to the Private Market. Please tell us who in the private market would offer such services when these services can surely never make a profit.

The role of government is to provide those services that the private market won't. In the case of the Iron Horse, the City is providing housing for the seasonal workers necessary to keep the economy of this ski town going. YVHA purchased the Fish Creek Trailer park, with a loan from the City, to provide a stable, affordable place for many of our residents to live for the long term. Additionally, those residents have the option to purchase the land which they currently rent at a reasonable amount. Again, who else would provide this?

Others have asked about you and what motivates such hate and contempt of our community. The question was asked - Do you live in Steamboat - and so far, no answer. Steamboat Springs is not perfect and we are struggling with severe growing pains. The members of this community are trying to come up with solutions to address these important issues and all you provide is pontification and no real solutions.

Again, who are you and what motivates such negative, destructive commentary?

Developers dish a little buzz

agentofchange's comments peaked my curiosity so I scanned through all of his 87 postings. In one of his postings he mentioned his name and a search in the Routt County Assessor's page indicates that Agent owns no property, nothing in Steamboat or Routt County. Agent, what is up with your perspective about Steamboat and the current leadership in the City? You appear to be "carpet bagger like" in that you have no real vested interest in Steamboat but merely in what you can gain personally. If you really care about Steamboat's future, I say put your money where your mouth is.
