"Still, she had to go through the permitting process, and the Mendozas became the only permitted tortilla sellers in town." Why is she the only permitted seller? This is a democracy and she should not have a MONOPOLY if others are interested!
If I read correctly, the product is not even made in Steamboat. Clearly, local economy is supporting someone "elsewhere", just as if you buy the product in a grocery store. Lets encourage them to produce the goods here to support local economy (from buying raw product, labor and sales)?
Jaded, Don't be mistaken, the City Council does not represent you if you live outside of the City of Steamboat Springs. It is named CITY Council for a reason. That is why this subject matter is being put to the votes of the city residents. Thank you "Let's vote", you have done a great job! :)
Education? Have you not kept yourself abreast of the issue and made effort to learn how water, sewage treatment and traffic will affect all of us? Steamboat 700 even hired people to solicit us by making calls to our residences giving incorrect information just to get a";pro vote"; although our phone numbers are registered on the ";do not solicit" list? What an audacity!
You earned the right to vote, it is your responsibility to educate yourself with just pure facts and than make a sound decision:)

Where is the news? So many adds, I can't find many news. It is starting to look more like a magazine, not worth the time spend to search for few articles.
The location of the Routt County Clerk and Recorder's Office is hard to find. Put up temporary exterior signs! The signage on the window is not visible only until you leave the building. And not having city employees familiar with the location where to drop of the ballot in one of the the building maze does not help either.
If VHR operators adhered to laws and did not disrupt the residential neighborhood, there would not be such an outcry from neighbors.
Move the VHR operators into the proper hotel/motel zoning district and we will not have any problems. The traffic generated by service vehicles and unruly short term rentals in a residential neighborhood is overwhelming. When do we stop VHR overpowering the neighborhood? There is more to life than profit.....:) it is called a tranquility and a life style - the reason we live in a residential neighborhood.
VHR operators need to stop whining about how much business they generate, at what cost to the residents? We live here too. Put a business in a business area where it belongs, not into residential area.

Is this where my half cent sales tax went....for education?
