Has anyone heard about plans to develop a second base area / gondola out of Burgess Creek. Is this connected to the discussions regarding a potential sale of the Scandinavian Lodge?

I don't know what this town is coming to…..one day we are told you can no longer leave your car unlocked - someone may steal your laptop or IPOD. Now we cannot leave a suspected felon unrestrained at a hospital facility for fear that he might just go home. Gosh darn it! AND…he lied about his identity…what a sneaky suspect……those poor policemen!! It is just not fair!!
I think if this does not make it to the next version of cabaret this community has a lot to answer for…

The ad campaign that ran with the theme “quality not quantity” relating to fundraising and ad-spending, suggesting that the voters should back the incumbents, and not the money backed newbie candidates just ran aground.
Reminds me of the dirty campaign run by Anderson last time where he cited that the definition of insanity would be to vote for the same person twice and expect different results. Funny how he dropped that line this time around….
How many times can these incumbents twist and turn, delivering spin instead of direction, before they step on their own shoelaces and fall flat on their face? Anderson is running out of room…..

Michael Towers isn't another Intrawest / Cafritz / Wildhorse wannabe. He's a second home owner, who rents his home out when he's not here using it himself. I believe the smallprint of his ad says that he paid for it himself. Not sure why he used his company letterhead…
His main comments are directed towards the actions of City Council incumbents, and specifically Towny Anderson, who were responsible for creating a vastly over-reaching Vacation Rental Ordinance which now costs 10 times as much to apply for plus additional fees for pre-application tasks like property notification and site plans (for rentals that have operated without problems for years). This permit process is now clogging up the city planning offices for a rental activity that has until now operated with a statistical zero complaints rate.
I think that Towers makes some very good points and why are his comments less legitimate than the “Concerned Citizens” (some of whom are also out of town property owners). At least he is not hiding behind a smokescreen. If you can't vote here the least you can do is share your experience of the incumbents in the way that they ran some City Council meetings - which was shameful during the VHR debate.
Had he been witness to the Historic Preservation Moratorium mess he would have had to pay for a whole new page to address concerns voiced by dozen of residents about Towny's vision of what is needed in the community.
It is time for a change!

We cannot sit with our heads in the sand ignoring the FACT that traffic is ruining our town. How can we ever have a revitalized downtown, that so many local businesses are working to save, if it is choked by heavy traffic that makes the idea of sitting outside intolerable. Heavy trucks thundering through town are a relentless nightmare.
The traffic seems to have gotten worse in only the last few years. An updated traffic study is needed. The west of Steamboat annexation is a new concern and even 5 years ago Steamboat was growing at a modest pace (compared with now). We need to make an informed decision and we need to accept that if the downtown is to be saved it will require compromise and sacrifice and bold political will.
The multi-modal ideas sound great on paper but they just don't work in this country. People will not drive buses unless it really suits them to.

I agree with many of these comments. Once again the City Council is over-reaching, trying to “fix” something (this time it's the free-market economy) that ain't broke. If you don't have a few formula stores downtown you will have a lot of empty new retail space. Our local stores have competed for years based on excellent customer service and so they will have to continue competing to stay in business. What is lacking downtown is a variety of shopping sufficient to attract customers in the first place. I welcome the addition of new retail space especially if it allows me to shop in the City. We totally underestimate the value of dollars that stay in our local economy.
Let the market decide who wants to sell in this town and stop the Council “meddling”. Already this year we have had a litany of questionable decisions (linkage / vacation rentals / numerous consultants).
Thank God we have an election soon!

County Commissioners need to look at our roads and the needs of our users (vehicles / cyclists / farm equipment / semis) and make the roads better. The law recognizes the rights of all of these user groups. It is not the place of the car and truck drivers to say - ban cyclists! The roads could be better and should be improved. We can all get along!
Let's hope we can call this a lucky escape for the cyclist. Guys - let's be more considerate out there and anticipate that what's around that next corner could be your kid on a bike.

The girl hit was one of our brightest cycling stars. Sounds like a pretty serious accident as she is now in Denver for treatment.
Let's move beyond name calling and work together on making it safer out there for everyone. We didn't need to wait for this to happen - the writing has been on the wall for a while. Now we can think seriously about the cost of these dangerous roads to a young person in our community.

Consider the Ingalls family, who's daughter is a state champion level cyclist and was involved in a serious accident a couple of days ago on 129. A girl in the prime of her life, experienced and skillful on a bike and even she was caught out by the challenging shoulder conditions on 129 that made her skid into traffic. It is just not safe out there!
Let's hope that this is enough of a scare for the funding to be put in place for road improvements in the county.

Look out your window and tell me that those are not shuttle busses of all descriptions passing by your door every day. That big ol' 7% grade doesn't seems to slow them down on a powder day does it?
That RN-1 stuff is for the pixies…everyone knows it's the exclusive rental district (except for Winterwood) and it's only a matter of time before investors jump on this potential.
