Tunnel into Howelsen by going in behind the Public Works garage and popping out by Alpine Lumber. Take the diggings and extend the runway so we can land a 757 at Bob Adams International. Run'em over Jimmy's bridge and out at Yampasaurus intersection(the gate's of asophus). Get Haliburton (they already have the equipment in CO)the realtors and lodging business to pay for it. We'll put hundreds to work, solve the bypass problem, solve the airport problem and keep Fred's and everyone's trucks moving for years.
SSYHA never owned or operated the ice rink. It was franchised out, like the tennis center, to Mike Olsen until 1994 when JR didn't renew the contract. FYI
It is worth noting this is the second time a Houston is the music director of "Godspell" in Steamboat. I will always remember Brian Houston as a kind man who gave me my first musical job in Steamboat. I showed up at a dress rehearsal two weeks from opening night and claimed to know the bass guitar part. Brian allowed me to audition and he hired me that night. I cherish the memory of the Godspell Band of Dan Barrett, Washboard Willie, myself and Brian Houston. As this is a story of love, loss, rebirth and spirit I hope the patrons of the show give a reverent nod to the music director. I'm sure Brian will be to her, during the show, precisely what he was to me. "By My Side." Sincerely, Luke
Why not FINISH the ice arena? It's the Todd Lodwick of the Rec. Department. i.e. "I had the race won, looked over my shoulder to see if I had time to celebrate, tripped over my ski pole and came in second." Perhaps the Rec. Dept is looking to plush offices in their new 40million$ life-dream instead of the ones provided in the rink plan. Finish one 7million$ project before you begin a 40million$ one. The money they have spent on studies, surveys, plans and daydreaming would have finished the ice arena.
The city spent over ten years reducing benefits and eliminating full-time benefitted positions to glean money for things not crucial to the well-being of the humans they employ and serve. Why would they care about anyone else? They traded quaint charm for tax revenues so they could glorify their names in bronze on entryways all around town. The only difference between Steamboat and Aurora is the scenery. Urban sprawl doesn't work in tight valleys. Perhaps that's why they bought all that open space, because they knew the rest would be gone, and taxable, soon. Maybe someday someone sensible will actually serve.
The Record for May 11, 2009
Go to jail and then go get the booze while you are doing the shoveling the deputies won't do. Nothing like a little schnapps while in jail...
