freshair, my friend, you continually razz people on this blog for being part of the 'Hate-America Club.' If there even was such a group, people like you would be the reason there is an America to hate. You justify some of the worst human rights violations in history by stating that we didn't invent the problem, we just went along with it, so don't blame us. Then, in your long quote from some column, you change your stance completely, now saying that we actually fixed the problems. Furthermore, in your quote, which states things in a way that can't be bettered (according to you) lies this little line.
'Julia Ward Howe's powerful and popular "Battle Hymn of the Republic" called on Federal troops to follow Christ's example: "as he died to make men holy/let us die to make men free."'
Believing that Christ's example is bettered by no one is just foolish elitist, Republlican philosophy. Your buddy with his imaginary friend says things that sound good, but when those two dictate political policy, theres a real problem.
Your party and their philosophies are the problem. We should admit our mistakes and learn from them, not invade countries half-way around the world for powers sake; Not claim devine influence in all we do.
cmc punks. its really a shame how many low-lifes that school attracts. I would venture to guess that a good 80% of those kids are just the kind of punks who this kind of stuff. I'm wondering if anyone has any specifics for what happened on gaper day, I never heard anything.
stirringup, I would join in on those concerns, sure. Having Triple Crown is definitly not like having a soccer match or little league game at the end of the street.
stirrinuptrouble, I live a few steps from Whistler. Everybody who lives around there, and there are a lot, enjoy the peace and quiet during the summer time. Many know how nice of a neighborhood it is. But I don't want to see that field torn up and made into fields so we can get more of those clowns to play ball here. I am certain most every person living in the immidiate area would be pissed as hell if that happened.
I don't think its the papers job to make a soap opera out of a situation like this. If the school board hires a new administrator or the city council passes anything important, sure that will be on the front page. But staff writers using false information, bringing down the image of a man fighting for his job is simply wrong.
ido has a point with the "red neck town next to a world-class ski resort" comment. This is small town America struggling with its own self identity at this point. The old party block is getting demolished, new buildings are coming in, people now even want Home Depot and Target here. But we still deal with the pretentious and powerful few who have made every aspect of life in this town a political mess because they have the tilt to do so; folks who came here with a wad of cash and need to feel important. The school board is a complete mess. The city board is simply an embarassment. Not to mention we have a bunk news paper that prints off microscopically important details everyday for gossip hungry "locals" to chew on. Any change in important personel in this town is blown out of proportion when matters of such business should be kept off the front of the paper and be handled by professionals in a professional manner. But we'll always have the Steamboat Springs "Tabloid" to give us the scoop. This whole mess just shows what a bunch of knuckleheads run this town
Did anyone come to Steamboat for "Big Box Retailers?" How about that out of the way place where you don't have to see all the corporate B.S. If this is to happen, there will be almost nothing local left in Steamboat.
armcharpq, I never thought of it that way, both you folks have good stuff here. But I'm dissapointed about this for what it all represents in the transformation of Steamboat. This is one of those climactic changes where you're gonna remember town as it was before they torn down Ski Time Square, and then after the built it back up. Two very different times. I remember town as the kind of place with open meadows, no second homes, and a place where you could cut through your neighbor's yard without having the cops called on you. I know there's growth, and I'm not saying every person thats bought a new home here in the last ten years should leave, but things have changed. You've got a lot of big, 'ritzy' projects coming through to make this place a 'world class resort.' It really aint the out-of-the-way frontier town it once was. I loved this place for that. You can't replace the old-timer bar crowd at Dos, or the wild Tugboat scene with glitz and glammer. A local institution is going down that will never be able to be rebuilt, and there's nothing exciting about that.

Would attracting big box retail stores be good for Steamboat Springs residents?
