Thank you for coming up to the Torian. In my perspective, the glass is always half full, so the businesses just need to see this as an opportunity instead of a problem. The Torian is like every other business in town facing the challenges of getting customers in the door. We know its going to be slow while this construction is taking place. But it's going to be so much better after its all done. We just have to work a little harder to get people to come up. And they will, as long as we offer something that is worth the trip. It's not really painful if you look at it as a chance to make each business the best that it can be for the greater good of all. Look for that to be the case in the future!
It's not as bad as this article suggests. There is still plenty of business from the Hotels and Condos. Concierge are going out of their way to recommend Torian's shops and restaurants. The problem is with local's perception of construction on the mountain. This reporter should have found a POSITIVE story, in that the demolition has been amazingly smooth and quiet. There has not been one traffic delay on Ski Time Square Drive. It is still only a 5 minute drive from City Market to the Torian. Free and convenient underground parking, as always. If the newspaper would print an article like that it would help be beneficial, instead of another gloom and doom story. What is it with The Pilot? Do NEGATIVE headlines really sell more papers?
Chris Corna's comments were taken entirely out of context! (Suprise?!) He was trying to say that there is NO PROBLEM with construction in Ski Time Square, because the road is still totally OPEN!
The headline should have read "Mountain businesses unaffected by Ski Time Square demolition". Instead the writer made it sound like the entire mountain is inaccessible! If he would have taken the time to visit the site himself, he would have seen that the demolition is orderly, and not impeding traffic to the area at all.
Why does the Pilot have to put a negative spin on so many things? The only thing that is keeping people from coming up to the Torian, and other business areas is the PERCEPTION (created by the newspaper) that you can't get there from here. The truth is WE ARE OPEN, AND READY TO SERVE LOCALs and VISITORS alike! You can drive and park right at our door! Please help us get the word out, instead of making it harder!
The pilot has made the impression that business on the mountain is like a ghost-town. This is false. Locals and visitors alike pack the restaurants and shops every day and night in the Torian Plaza. This is the best kept secret in Steamboat! Please let people know that there is convenient easy underground parking in the Torian garage all summer long, and a construction free garden oasis that is accessible to everyone.
