This means that, if we lived in Al’s world, Mr_B can forget about solar panels and just get a diesel Hummer, then sell the carbon credits to SilverSpoon. - Save the Planet!

Global Warming Carbon Offsets were created so that Al Gore can buy a carbon offset from a company that he owns, which in turn goes out and plants a bunch of trees, that will in several hundred years consume as much carbon as Al’s jet blows out the turbine.
This allows people like Al to continue their lavish lifestyles without interruption or guilt while they run around pretending like they are saving the planet.

Rob seems to have his own special brand of TC McCarthyism. Anyone who opposes TC is a Communist!
When is there going to be a limit on how many TC people you can stuff onto the downtown sidewalks? Seems to me that when they start using the street also, the town is full. Now they want to bring in 40 more teams.
Why are people who prefer a calmer town in the summer written off as commies? No one in this town is against businesses. I own a business too. We are just tired of TC flooding the town at a time when it would be packed anyway.
The Pilot is good at stirring things up to keep circulation going but they should pick more experienced writers when covering hot button local topics. In reading this article and the last, I never got the feeling that Rob understood the problem. Maybe he just hasn’t been here very long.
TC would not need Emerald is there weren’t so many of them.
Let’s put the 09 / 10 contract up for a vote in the general election in November. Let the people decide.

Nice try Fred. Too much stuff in the way these days. Triple Crown would be very unhappy if we wiped out their Emerald fields with a by-pass. 25 years ago it could have been done.
I like another-local’s idea better, although it would be better to stretch the by-pass a little further and land at the Mt Werner interchange. It’s already built to handle big traffic.

Craig has a bunch of fields, why not share the love with them. Most TC people are driving hundreds of miles to get here already, 50 more miles won’t hurt them. A bunch of people in this valley make that drive every day. That would be a better alternative than Emerald fields.

That’s the real problem with OTHS, the tourists drive the locals away. The tourists own it.
Tell me love, if it’s so great, how come only a handful of locals were using the place? Seems like in a town with a population of 10k + more than a handful of people would want to workout.

I agree with anotherlocal and sophie. Unless these other communities impose a similar fundraising tax on themselves how can they expect Steamboat to pay up? I also know people who live in Hayden who proudly claim that they don’t ever buy anything in Steamboat.
We should also keep in mind that people outside Steamboat don’t pay city sales tax on their vehicles and building materials and any other large ticket items when they can claim delivery was outside the city.

“$1.19 million in tax revenues to Northwest Colorado” That includes tax revenue for Craig, Hayden, Routt County and Moffat County.
Steamboat only claims 500k per year in TC tax revenue. If Steamboat were to foot the entire bill, it would take 20 years just to break even.
