Blythe Terrell is the city editor at the Steamboat Pilot & Today. She came here in March 2008 from Austin, Texas, where she was a copy editor at the Austin American-Statesman. Blythe graduated in May 2005 with a bachelor's of journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has
interned as a reporter at The Kansas City Star, at Third Sector magazine in London, and as a copy editor at the Traverse City (Mich.) Record-Eagle and the Orlando Sentinel. Blythe was born in Louisville, Ky., but grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis (after a brief stint in Aurora). She's a fan of St. Louis sports teams and college athletics, and she loves having adventures, meeting strangers and reading Hunter S. Thompson.

Routt jobless rate rises in October
6.1% of labor force was unemployed, up from 5.9% in September
Routt County's unemployment stood at 6.1 percent in October, up from 5.9 percent in September, according to state figures released today. The number of people in the county's labor force continues to decrease. Statewide, unemployment fell from 7 percent in September to 6.9 percent in October.

Authors talk about process, passion at Literary Sojourn
Nearly every seat at every table was full at Saturday's Literary Sojourn. The audience members leaned raptly over pairs of reading glasses taking notes on pads or sneaking sips of water. Before them stood the authors, on a stage, behind a lectern and between paintings of trees and snow.

Heidi Olinger was shopping for her niece Ryanne in 2001 when it dawned on her: There were no clothes out there that fit Ryanne's personality. That frustration planted the seed for Olinger's apparel company, Pretty Brainy. The line is meant for girls ages 7 to 14, called "tweens," and focuses on being feminine and intelligent.

Steamboat Ski Area is in the thick of ski season hiring, and the recession has changed a lot.Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. expects to bring on fewer international workers, but leaders expect employment numbers to be similar to last season.
