Blythe Terrell is the city editor at the Steamboat Pilot & Today. She came here in March 2008 from Austin, Texas, where she was a copy editor at the Austin American-Statesman. Blythe graduated in May 2005 with a bachelor's of journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has
interned as a reporter at The Kansas City Star, at Third Sector magazine in London, and as a copy editor at the Traverse City (Mich.) Record-Eagle and the Orlando Sentinel. Blythe was born in Louisville, Ky., but grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis (after a brief stint in Aurora). She's a fan of St. Louis sports teams and college athletics, and she loves having adventures, meeting strangers and reading Hunter S. Thompson.

A fire that started in Room 106 at the Rabbit Ears Motel on Saturday evening probably was electrical, motel owner Greg Koehler said Sunday. Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue officials were at the motel investigating Sunday, he said.

Police officer suffered from smoke inhalation
The fire was in Room 106 at the downtown motel. Steamboat Springs Police Department officers and Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue responded, and one police officer suffered from smoke inhalation. A witness said the room was empty at the time of the fire.

Steamboat's fireworks show goes off seamlessly
Crowds packed Yampa Street, Howelsen Hill and the bars lining the Yampa River on Sunday night, as Steamboat Springs residents and visitors prepared for one of the biggest Fourth of July fireworks shows yet. The display was the most successful so far, organizer Tim Borden said Monday.

The Racksteins live in Florida and have a house in Steamboat Springs, and Rackstein and her husband, Andy, brought twins Colton and Harper out to help with ReTree Colorado. The Mayses also live in Florida.

The new site for the LIFT-UP food bank in Hayden includes far more shelf space and square footage than the previous spot. Volunteer Holly Blake, displaying the wares Thursday, handled much of the move and will run the food bank.
