Steamboat Springs Northwest Colorado is in desperate need of wrestling officials.
Rick Bettger of the Colorado Wrestling Officials Association said there are only three officials certified in the Northwest Region, which includes Rifle, Meeker, Craig, Hayden, Steamboat Springs and Oak Creek.
"There is a shortage in most sports, but this is pretty critical," Bettger said. "Three (officials) would mean these local schools would have to pay to bring people in."
Every area school hosts tournaments and duals during the course of the season. In addition, every community has a youth wrestling program.
"We have a serious problem," Bettger said.
Bettger is holding a wrestling rules and testing clinic for all interested officials at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at Steamboat Springs High School. Anyone with questions can call Bettger at 879-7497 or e-mail pine903@aol.com.
