If it is more than one hour we have a traffic problem

What ever happened to the old "Take Five" program? We need it back! Does anyone remember?

I live in LA, and if the traffic is just as bad when I come for visits, I think we have a huge problem.

aggressive driving is more of a problem on route 40, and mt. werner rd. people downtown aren't overly aggressive. the most aggression i've seen lately was when some jaywalking pedestrians were ignoring the don't walk signal at 9th street, and a driver laid on his horn as soon as his light turned green. he then stomped on the gas as soon as the people were out of his way.
btw, do pedestrians really have the right of way if they are blatantly jaywalking here. i know in some towns they don't. when i was in college a pedestrian got hit by a car while jaywalking. the court made her pay a fine, and pay for the damage to the car that hit her.

The ones who make a quick left just as the light turns green are very annoying and dangerous. This is obviously a nonnative move brought from somewhere else. Spot the newcomer!

I remember when coming to a four-way stop was like getting the door opened for ya...Some folks would politely jester for you to go first and smile. Now, many drivers barely yield at stop signs as they continue on their way...nearly escaping collisions.

When ever I go downtown, I always find that the roads are much safer (except 3rd + Lincoln) than many other areas in Steamboat. I feel that the most dangerous area in Steamboat, is in the Centeral City Plaza parking lot. The city council should get places like this to look into making that area safer for everyone.

part of the problem at city market is everyone thinks they are entitled to a parking spot along the curb right in front. does anyone remember when they had the signs out there that said "shuttle busses only"? when they had those signs, the shuttles could pull up at the curb and pick up. those shuttles are way too big to park anywhere else in there. if they had a designated spot again, it would make things better. when people park cars at the curb, then one of those 25 passenger shuttles has to double park to pick up people it makes everything a real mess.

The merge lane out at Lincoln Park near the Express building is an accident waiting to happen. And 5th and Howelson/River road at the rodeo is where parents are in such a hurry they do not use the stop signs much. The convergence of four directions of traffic, the bike path and railroad tracks is a nightmare.

Rollingstone and Anglers, and the Sundance Plaza access roads aren't downtown, but sure have their share of aggressive drivers. These are folks who apparently don't know what a STOP sign means. I was almost hit once by a man talking on his cell phone pulling out from Central Park Plaza, not looking to the right, and making a left turn without yielding right of way. I feel like a duck in a shooting gallery.

I'm sure who ever asked this question gets honked at every time they drive through downtown. Aggresive driving is a direct result of a traffic problem. If you go anywhere in the world with traffic congestion, even LA, you'll find aggresive driving. Maybe the problem is people who can't get their vehicle all the way into the turn lane. Maybe the problem is people who can't parallel park. Maybe the problem is people who window shop from their car at 5 mph. Or maybe the problem is pedestrians who pick their butt as they cross the side streets.

Hi Zuber,
I asked the question and I do get honked at every time I drive through downtown. But it's probably because I am so darn good-looking, not because of driving issues.
This particular question arose from a story on the front page of our Sunday paper, headlined "Traffic concerns consultants."
The Question of the Week usually comes from a news story or editorial dealing with a timely local issue. But I am always open to other suggestions.
Thanks for your interest,
Mike Lawrence

marthalee,
it sounds like what you are describing is just an inattentive driver. i don't see one single sign of aggression on his part in your description of the incident, just someone who is not paying attention. aggression involves anger, it sounds like YOU are angry at the inattentive driver. he was just oblivious to his surroundings.

If you would ALL stay off your cell phones maybe there wouldn't be so many near-misses and the traffic could flow better. Ther should be a law against driving & cell phone use
