Other than food and music, I don't believe I have ever "shopped" there. Dos had great food as well as the Butcher shop and music from the Tugboat and Levelz were always fun times. It has been awhile since we were up there but none the less I was saddened to hear that what once was, will never be again. I always thought that part of Steamboat was designed for the tourist and it sounds like it will be in the future as well. In one hand you have development and in the other you have local charm, to bad those that seek development have to destroy the charm to get what THEY want. Adios Amigos!!

Honestly since I've lived here I haven't gone there much other than for the Theater. The shopping there is targeted more towards tourists, not locals.
I fell bad for the restaurants and businesses going through this. Some of them might not still be around if we ignore them.
Yes there is no parking.. its a construction zone, you can't expect there to be any RIGHT THERE.. park in the free parking and walk you lazy people. Or take the bus!

I disagree with madmoore's comment about the base area having "charm." I have always found it difficult to navigate by car, and not pedestrian-friendly. I think the changes at the base are sorely needed, and I applaud them. (Oh, and nothing will keep us away from Cafe Diva.)

Even though the thread/poll is about the "base area" and the destruction of some damn fine business, I was making a blanket statement about the overall sacrifice to Steamboat's charm through development. Thought I would clarify that.

Dos Amigos and the other businesses in Ski Time Sq are down %50 due to the citys road and utility construction project. The city should look at some form of financial compensation for the small businesses up there.The city is obviously supporting the developers by building new infastruture for them. Unfortunitly they are doing it at the expense of the small businesses that have been supporting the city with sales taxes for 20 plus years.

I will dearly miss Dos and the Tugboat . . . it is sad that all the concerts had to be downtown this summer . . . I'm sure that hurt their biz quite a bit. I will miss the local haunts. It was nice to see friendly faces for apres ski and have a little reprieve from the tourists. I put Dos right up there with the Red Onion in Aspen, which btw is no longer either!
