Strawberry Park and Soda Creek elementary school students have begun a “Penny Drop” fundraising effort to collect change and raise money for new playgrounds, accessible to all children, at the two schools. The Hayden School District began the search for Superintendent Mike Luppes’ successor this week by advertising the position with the Colorado Association of School Executives. Luppes has served as superintendent for four years and plans to retire in June.

Auctioneer Ken Kawcak hosted the annual Hayden Christmas Tree Auction on Sunday at the Routt County Fairgrounds. Last year’s event raised $5,000 and event organizers hope to beat last year’s total that goes toward Routt County nonprofit groups.
