This eerie image reminded Tread of Pioneers Museum Assistant Katy Taylor of a ghost story about Laura Monson, who supposedly haunted her family's house long after her death. Occupants of the house said they noticed one of the home's antique rocking chairs - in which Monson spent much of her time after a crippling car accident - moving as though someone was sitting in it. The incidents continued on windless days into the 1970s, when someone got rid of the chair, Taylor said.

The traditional ceremony requires that pockets are emptied of all bread or cookie crumbs and cast into the water. This is symbolic of casting off sins and beginning the Jewish New Year with a clean slate.
