Nick Troutman opens his eyes wide Monday while kayaking down Fish Creek in the Paddling Life Pro Invitational. Troutman, who won the freestyle competition and was sixth in the Fish Creek race, went on to split the overall title with Andrew Holcombe.

Trillium is a low growing plant that lasts just a few weeks in the mountains in this area. The plant can be identified by its three-petaled white flower, sometimes pinkish in color as it ages, inside three dark green leaves.
Strawberry Park Elementary School teacher Don Schwartz will retire this year. His career stretches 27 years and included 22 in the Steamboat Springs School district.
