Golfer Tim Murphy chips onto the green at the Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon during the Ninth annual Rally for the Cure golf tournament. The local tournament raises money that is split between the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project.

Volunteers have played a key role in the success of the Steamboat Springs Triathlon in the past. Volunteer coordinator Joy Rasmussen is looking for people to help with August’s event. She also would like to find members of the community who are willing to be a part of a board that would help direct and organize the event.


Former Colorado State Univeristy lineman Justin Borvansky was on hand Tuesday to support his mom, Kay Borvansky, who helped with the silent auction at this year’s Rally for the Cure Golf Tournament. Kay was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer.

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue firefighters investigate the cause of a reported explosion at the Qwest building at Seventh and Oak streets. Firefighter Travis Wilkinson said witnesses reported hearing an explosion and saw smoke coming from the building. Power was out at all the buildings on the block. Wilkinson said the explosion people heard most likely was the sound of a back-up generator starting at Qwest when the power went out. Power was restored in about 30 minutes.


Kevin Taulman has been hired as interim principal of Steamboat Springs High School.

Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. trail crew employee Jerome Moser sprays mulch and grass seed onto Headwall ski run on Tuesday at the ski area. Ski Corp. is in the process of seeding Headwall, which was regraded last summer to make it friendlier for beginner skiers.
