Cadenhead said dying trees still may look healthy, but on the outside, small flows of hardened sap are a good indication that beetles are present. Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue firefighters investigate the cause of a reported explosion at the Qwest building at Seventh and Oak streets. Firefighter Travis Wilkinson said witnesses reported hearing an explosion and saw smoke coming from the building. Power was out at all the buildings on the block. Wilkinson said the explosion people heard most likely was the sound of a back-up generator starting at Qwest when the power went out. Power was restored in about 30 minutes.

Members of Routt County 4-H played host to young 4-H members from Santa Clara County in California as part of an exchange program. Last summer, the Routt County children visited California, and now the California members are in Routt County for the week. Activities include a visit to the Strawberry Park Hot Springs, a llama trip and a lunch at Tread of Pioneers Museum. The group also visited the Yeager ranch near Steamboat Springs on Tuesday, where they took a wagon ride and had dinner.

Officials say the Moffat County Regional Airport terminal building and parking lot have fallen into disrepair. Although there is about $289,000 available for the terminal project, costs are estimated to be about $308,000. Money for the terminal building includes all funds originally slated for the parking lot.
