A pair of Steamboat skiers traded spots atop the podium at this weekend's Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup events in Beaver Creek. Ann West, center, skiing for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, carved her way to a first-place finish at Saturday's downhill race with a time of 1 minute, 28.68 seconds. SSWSC skier Jenny Allen, right, took second in 1:29.24 and with it, the top junior women's spot. Winter Park's Molly Leonard took third. Allen returned to the downhill course on Sunday and took advantage of a fast track to win in a time of 1:27.95. This time, West took second, by only 3/100ths of a second. Telluride will host the next stop on the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup Tour, where men and women will have two giant slalom and two slalom races, February 21 through 24. On the men's side, Austin Johnson led the Steamboat skiers, finishing 17th Saturday and 15th Sunday. Other notable Saturday finishers included Cory McConnell (20th) and Nicholaus Kullas (23th). Top Sunday finishers included Ryan McConnell (20th), Cory McConnell (22nd) and Hig Roberts (30th). Other top Saturday female finishers included Anna Marno (13th), Caitlin Colgan (22nd), Cassady Roberts (24th), Lorin Paley (26th) and Emily Sackett (30th). Sunday finishers included Mary Rachel Hostetter (10th), Paley (21st), Anna Marno (25th), Maria Hillenbrand (27th), Cassady Roberts (28th) and Victoria McVicker (30th).

Snowmobiles had been a common sight on county roads that wind through the Willow Creek Pass subdivision until officials realized state law prohibited snowmobiling on county roadways. Incidents of harassment and threats have been cited because of the snowmobile issue.

He has been busy talking to the owners and locals who frequent the Tugboat Grill & Pub, Ski Town USA's local bar for the past 35 years. Cars fill the Knoll parking lot at the Steamboat Ski Area on Tuesday afternoon. Today, the ski area will begin constructing a temporary event tent to house an upcoming series of music concerts. The tent formerly was set up in the lower parking lot adjacent to the gondola building, but that site is no longer available because of the construction of One Steamboat Place, a luxury condominium project. Ski area officials said the south half of the Knoll lot will continue to be available for free skier parking. Parking also is available in the Meadows lot near the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs.
