"The first two innings we were a little sketched, but after the first two, we rocked it," said Steamboat catcher Ashton Palmer, whose team held Aspen to three runs in the last two innings. Mataya Flaharty got Steamboat on the board early. And after knocking a triple in the fifth inning, Darcy Hornstein scored for the Sailors along with Palmer and Kirsten Delaney, who scored twice. Hornstein started the game on the mound and Delaney notched two strikeouts in relief. "They're coming back with a fight - we just have to get it together in the first few innings," Steamboat coach Maggie Garcia said. "Our bats are finally coming around and we're learning to run bases and everyone is finally sliding." Steamboat next plays a doubleheader against Rifle, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at Soroco High School.

Four of the days are being held in abeyance and one day was actively served. A 62-year-old West Virginia man was arrested Wednesday evening on U.S. Highway 40 near Dream Island Plaza on suspicion of felony menacing after he threatened a driver in Grand County with a gun during a road rage incident. Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Scott Elliott said David L. Jones was driving a Ford F-350 Super Duty near U.S. 40 and Colorado 14 in Grand County when Jones allegedly pulled a revolver on another driver during a verbal argument. The other driver was not injured, but he or she did call police to report the incident after Jones left, he said. Routt County Sheriff's Office deputies spotted Jones' vehicle near Mount Werner Road and U.S. 40 shortly after the incident and pulled Jones over, he said. Officers found a revolver, several rifles and four open containers of vodka in Jones' vehicle. Two dogs that also were in the vehicle were taken to the animal shelter. Steamboat Springs police also assisted with the incident.

A pack of Great Pyrenees dogs, like the one shown here, attacked and killed a 5-year-old Labrador retriever-pit bull mix Monday near Dumont Lake. The attack prompted Forest Service officials to warn the public about the presence of the guard dogs, which are bred to protect large flocks of sheep from predators.
