Twelve-year-old John Wharton, a seventh-grader at Steamboat Springs Middle School, won the 11-12 telemark division Saturday at the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships. Wharton’s grandfather, Bob Kearful, also won the 70-74 telemark division at the event. Both racers were inadvertently omitted from the NASTAR story that ran in Tuesday’s Steamboat Today.
