First Officer Jeff Earley steps off an United Express plane used for Denver flights Monday at the Yampa Valley Regional Airport. Summer air service began Friday at YVRA. The service this summer includes the United Express Denver flights as well as new Salt Lake City Delta Connection flights.
Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue Lt. Michael Arce trains with other firefighters Monday at the Mountain Fire Station. The firefighters were using a foam that Arce said is useful for fighting fires in rural areas where water has to be trucked in. The Steamboat Springs City Council will host a joint meeting with the Steamboat Springs Rural Fire Protection District tonight to discuss current coverage, plans for proposed development west of Steamboat Springs, staffing issues and more.
Former Steamboat Pilot editor Dee Richards uses a typewriter in 1972. Richards was the editor of the newspaper for 25 years. She died Sunday at age 86.

Soda Creek Elementary School principal Judy Harris packs boxes Monday in her office. A massive project to relocate things out of the school and to the temporary facility is under way, and hundreds of materials, such as desks and light fixtures, will be for sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Soda Creek.
