Steamboat Mavericks Freeride Team snowboarder Spencer Tamblyn launches out of the Mavericks Superpipe during its Friday opening. Tamblyn plans to announce while other top local freestyle skiers and riders compete in Friday’s Jeep Terrain Park Challenge competition at the base of the ski area.


Laurel Street’s Alden Wade looked like he is ready to do his part to help build a new playground at his School. Wade will not actually be doing the work, but thanks to a grant, the students will be getting a new playground soon.

The City of Steamboat Springs installed traffic signs that alert drivers to their speed as they enter the downtown corridor. A similar sign was installed at the other side of town at the edge of the West Lincoln Park. The police department hopes the signs will deter drivers from speeding through downtown.

Steamboat Springs firefighters climb a ladder Tuesday night to get onto the roof of building B at The Pines Condominiums. The building caught fire, and the cause is still under investigation.

Trisha Fribis and Tyler Cardona, of St. Louis, Mo., enjoy a ski lesson at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area on Wednesday. The next three days are expected to be the busiest days on the slopes this season. A pending winter storm could lay down a fresh layer of snow — and create transportation problems reminiscent of last week.
