A few years ago, Diane Davis sat down in her kitchen with a hot glue gun, a pile of holiday evergreen wreathes, a collection of decorations and her forgotten creative side. That craft-a-palooza left her family and friends with holiday wreathes, and it left Davis with what would become the Steamboat Arts & Crafts Gym.

Search and rescue teams gear up for the winter

Had people managed to get lost last weekend along the stretch of U.S. Highway 40 that crosses Rabbit Ears Pass, or buried under the 2 or 3 inches of snow that partially covered the rocky terrain, there likely would have been good news. The army of search and rescue volunteers that canvassed the area would surely have found them.

About a dozen local artisans and organizations will showcase their products until 4 today at the Moonhill Schoolhouse and Community Center’s Holiday Bazaar. Barb Ross, K.C. Cummings, Chris Bradley and Nora McKay will sell wares including paintings, crafts, pine cone fire starters and handmade grocery and wine bags.

Skiers and riders dusted off the cobwebs and got their leg muscles burning Thursday, the first regular day for season-pass holders at Steamboat Ski Area. Brightly colored snow gear speckled the 12 open trails as people made their way down from the Christie Peak Express and Preview lifts.

Nordic skiers to skip World Cup

The top Nordic combined skiers in the world will get back on the snow in Kuusamo, Finland, this week when the World Cup officially returns, but there will be at least one team missing. “We are skipping Kuusamo,” U.S. Nordic combined coach Dave Jarrett said.
