Hayden girls basketball routs Vail Christian

Joel Reichenberger

— The Hayden High School girls basketball team found little trouble Saturday, blowing out Vail Christian on the road, 72-39.

Now the Tigers are focused on a Tuesday showdown on the road in Palisade against Olathe, a strong Class 3A team that was No. 4 in The Denver Post’s preseason rankings.

“We’re pretty excited. We’ve been looking forward to this game,” Hayden coach Eric Hamilton said.

On Saturday, the Rolando sisters paced Hayden. Junior Kelsey Rolando picked up her first varsity points, hitting four 3-point shots in the game. Senior Kyra Rolando, meanwhile, had 14 points.

Brette Frentress scored 12, and Aubree Haskins got 8.

The game was close after a quarter, but Hayden opened up the gates in the second and quickly distanced Vail.

“We were flat at first, but we really picked up our intensity and played well the rest of the way,” Hamilton said.
